On July 2nd, 2015, the CKNW Orphans’ Fund proudly presented Vancouver Opera with a grant of $20,000 to support a school-tour of their production, StickBoy. These funds were raised through the CKNW Orphans’ Fund’s Pink Shirt Day Campaign held in the month of February.
Stickboy is an opera for young audiences about bullying and re-introduces opera as an art form that can spark relevant dialogue and underscore contemporary topics. Stickboy confronts the uncomfortable reality of a society struggling with its own fear and insecurity, a society that seeks conformity and uniformity at the expense of those who are different.
